Mission Statement

‘I have come that they may have life and have it to the full’ (John 10:10)

In our school we aim to:

  • offer a loving and caring place based on Gospel values
  • celebrate each person as being unique and of equal value in the eyes of God, the Father, Son and Holy Spirit
  • act upon the needs shown by different groups of people
  • serve all people especially the weakest members
  • build a community of pupils, staff, parents and governors who work and pray together
  • help all to use their talents and to give of their best at all times
  • make a good difference to the world in which we live

Man came not to be served but to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many
(Mark 10:45)

ECO SCHOOLS

What is Eco Schools?
Our Lady’s is part of an international group of schools whose aims are to be more sustainable and provide a better quality of life for the local and global communities. We currently have silver status, which means that we have achieved a lot making the school more eco friendly.

What does the Eco School Group do?
The Eco School group meets every week in B1 and is made up of a number of Geography pupils. There are a number of projects going on in the school that are organised by the group.

Projects that are currently going on at school include:

  1. Recycling of paper: Each classroom, staff room and office in school has a green box. All unwanted paper is placed in the box to be recycled.
  2. Pupils are campaigning to reduce the amount of litter that is found around school.
  3. Printer cartridge recycling: There are posters around school encouraging pupils to bring in their old printer cartridges for recycling. As well as helping the environment, recycling a cartridge helps to raise money for Oxfam. Look at the poster below to see how recycling your old cartridges can help the environment and help poor people in other countries.

COMMUNITY COLLEGE

Community College Manager: Dave Pearson

The school became a Specialist Mathematics and Computing College at the end of 2005 and we are now one of the best-equipped schools in the area in terms of computing equipment. One condition of our specialist status is that our facilities are offered to the wider community.

With schools being open to pupils, typically, from 9am to 4pm there is often an under-use of both equipment and teaching expertise. The Community College addresses this by offering a range of courses to adults.

In January 2006 the Community College opened on Tuesday and Thursday evenings offering basic computing courses. From this humble beginning there are now a wide range of courses available every Tuesday and Thursday.

During the first two terms courses were offered in the following:

Introduction to Computers
Introduction to Windows
Introduction to Microsoft Word
Introduction to Microsoft Excel
Introduction to Microsoft PowerPoint
Introduction to Ebay
Introduction to Photography
Intermediate Windows
Intermediate Word
Intermediate Excel
Intermediate Powerpoint
Intermediate Ebay
Intermediate Photography.

In addition to computing courses, we also offer Mathematics for adults, aimed at people who were frightened by numbers when they were at school and want to keep up with the Maths that their children are following.

Extra courses that were previously unavailable to school pupils have now been introduced in twilight sessions. There are a number of pupils who are now following an Applied ICT course that will lead to AS/A Level qualifications.

During the academic year 2007/08 we intend to build on the foundations that have been laid by becoming a registered centre for the European Computer Driving

Licence (ECDL). This will enable pupils within the school to gain this industry recognised qualification in Computing. The course will also be available to members of the wider community in the evening. We will also be offering conversational courses in both French and Italian, allowing visitors to these countries to gain a basic understanding of the local language.

Contact the school if you are interested in finding about any of the courses, or wish to register an interest for the future.
